The Wild North

Hiking tour on the Wild North

We begin our path at the Tosca viewpoint, walking towards a small dragon forest. This is The Wild North. We travel a winding road dotted with small ravines that allows us to enjoy the north coast and its unusual vegetation, and just before reaching the Gallegos neighborhood where the route ends, the last ravine will put us to the test.

Quiet and isolated, this is how the harsh and wild north presents itself to us. A landscape flooded with light and fog, broken by bizarre barrancos and rough mountain ridges, which offers only a few settlements. Here, nature is reduced to the essentials, still completely subject to the laws of wind and weather.

The Dragon trees from La Tosca

Our hike starts with an impressive view over the north coast, below we already see the first specimens of a dragon tree grove, plants that were considered sacred by the indigenous people. The endless green and the deep sea accompany our view on the section of the Camino Real GR130.

Gallegos

We cross several canyons, reaching picturesque enclaves on our way through succulent vegetation, tree heath and passing some barbuzanos. In the distance we see the villages of Franceses and El Tablado.

In the village of Gallegos we will stop at Marleen’s bar, where we can enjoy some refreshment after our impressive hike.

The Wild North

Once a week you can discover the Wild North, participating in a guided group. Departures by bus from all the hotels on the island to the wildest part of La Palma.

Bus departure: from every accommodation on La Palma (check pick-up point & departure time at the calendar)

Walking distance:  6 Km.

Total up & downhill:  + 300 m. / – 500 m.

Duration: aprox.  4 hours

We recommend suitable hiking clothing and sturdy footwear. During the routes, it is necessary to have food and enough drink, as well as sun protection, a hat, light windbreaker and in the winter months take into account warm clothing. We offer free chestnut wood canes.
