Starry Night with camping
Volcanoes and Lauriel Forests
Camping in the National Park
Nestled within the rugged terrain of La Palma, the Caldera de Taburiente stands as a majestic testament to the wonders of nature. Its grandeur captivates the senses, inviting all who venture into its realm to witness the harmonious convergence of towering cliffs, lush forests, and a serene azure sky. A geological masterpiece, this ancient volcanic caldera spans a vast expanse, revealing a multitude of hidden treasures to those who dare to explore its depths.
Camping in the National Park, one becomes immersed in a realm untouched by the hurried pace of modern life. As twilight descends upon the land, a symphony of crickets and nocturnal creatures serenades the weary traveler, while the dancing flames of a campfire cast an enchanting glow upon faces filled with awe and wonder. Underneath a star-studded canopy, one feels a deep connection to the universe, as if the secrets of the cosmos are whispered through the rustling leaves of ancient trees.
With the rising sun, the Caldera awakens, unveiling a breathtaking tapestry of vibrant colors that paint the landscape in a mesmerizing display. As rays of light filter through the dense foliage, illuminating hidden trails and babbling streams, the essence of life pulsates with each breath. Camping in the National Park, one can witness the delicate balance between human existence and the untamed wilderness, as hikers traverse rocky paths, their footsteps echoing through the valley, leaving behind mere traces of their temporary presence.
Nightfall blankets the Caldera once more, and as darkness envelops the landscape, a profound sense of tranquility settles upon the campsite. The whispering winds carry tales of ancient civilizations and primal forces that have shaped this geological marvel over eons. Camping in the National Park becomes an intimate communion with the Earth itself, an opportunity to immerse oneself in the primal rhythm of creation, where time seems to stand still and the soul finds solace in the simplicity of existence.
In the Caldera de Taburiente, camping in the National Park is an encounter with the sublime. It is a chance to step away from the trappings of civilization, to bask in the raw beauty of nature, and to forge a profound connection with the Earth’s primordial essence. As night gives way to day and the stars fade into the morning sky, the memories of a night spent amidst this geological wonder will forever be etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to experience its enchantment.

Day 2
Through the Laurel Jungles
After a short transfer to Cubo de La Galga, the first route begins by entering the lush laurel forests of the northeast. The path runs through a humid ravine where enormous ferns and centenary trees grow. These are plant species that have survived from a remote era and are of enormous botanical value. But from San Bartolo the route undergoes a metamorphosis as it continues along the Camino Real de La Costa (GR 130) until it reaches Puntallana, offering spectacular panoramas by the sea. The return to Santa Cruz de La Palma will be by regular bus (line 100 - every hour).

Day 3
On the Caldera Ridge
Today we will take you to Pico de La Nieve (2239 m), from where you can enjoy an extraordinary landscape with views of the interior of the National Park. The route follows the GR 131 along the edge of the central mountain range, constantly descending towards the centre of the island. Throughout the entire route you will be accompanied by a magnificent view of both sides of La Palma with the silhouette of the peak of Teide on the horizon and the neighbouring islands of El Hierro and La Gomera. The various observatories of Roque de Los Muchachos are left behind as the trail continues its descent towards the El Paso Visitor Centre. Return to Santa Cruz de La Palma by regular bus (line 300 - every 1/2 hour).

Day 4
Downwards toward Fuencaliente's Lighthouse
By public bus (line 200 or 201) today you will head towards Fuencaliente from where you will walk through the volcanic lands of the south. A place where the Teneguía volcano erupted in 1971, creating an impressive lunar-like landscape. The path forms part of the last section of the GR 131 and on its descent it crosses lava fields and vineyards until it reaches the Fuencaliente lighthouse, on the southern tip of La Palma. Next to the old salt pans there is now a sophisticated restaurant, ideal to fill your stomach before our taxi picks you up.

Day 6
Into the National Park
Today you will leave the hotel for an overnight stay in La Caldera. Your driver will take you to the west of La Palma, heading towards Los Brecitos, the gateway to the National Park. At 1040 metres above the sea your trail starts, which runs gently into the heart of La Caldera.
In the camping area, next to the Taburiente River, you will find an ideal place to hang your tent between two trees. Afterwards, freed from the weight of your backpack, you can explore the most relevant spots of La Caldera, going up to the Cascada Desfondada and even further, to the Hoyo Verde. And at dusk, get ready to enjoy a spectacular starry sky in the immense darkness of La Caldera.

Day 5
The Caldera in depth
After a frugal breakfast and with your tent packed up, you will leave the camping area and head down El Reventón, passing by Roque Idafe until you reach the Barranco de Las Angustias ravine. Here it is worth making a stop to visit the Colourswaterfall and, perhaps, take a refreshing bath in the pools and waterfalls that form next to the waterfall.
The path continues its descent along the bed of the ravine, crossing Dos Aguas and leaving behind the Pilow Lavas, solidified magma coming from the seabed. When you arrive at La Viña our driver will be waiting for you to take you back to Santa Cruz de La Palma.

Day 7
On the Volcanoes Route
This is perhaps one of the most spectacular and iconic routes on La Palma. The GR 131 crosses the ridge of the southern mountain range of La Palma, showing a volcanic landscape of enormous drama. The trail starts at 1450 metres above sea level and on the gradual ascent you will be able to observe from the heights the smoking crater of the recent eruption (September 2021). It is a walking route through a succession of contemporary eruptions and ancient volcanic cones from remote times. Las Deseadas are two mounds that, at almost 2,000 metres high, mark the turning point of the route. But there is still the Martin Volcano (October 1646), a beautiful crater that begins to mark the end before penetrating the pine forests to the south and ending in the village of Fuencaliente. Return by regular bus 200 or 201.
