Difficulty
This hiking programme in Lanzarote may be suitable for you if you are a sports person and have a good physical background; if you can go up and down steep slopes and have no health problems; if you love nature, are environmentally friendly and regularly go hiking.
Lanzarote is a land of enormous contrasts combining in perfect harmony. Its volcanic nature gives it some Dantesque landscapes that are difficult to imagine unless you walk through them.
But its idyllic valleys in the north with centuries-old palm groves and beautiful farming villages show a completely different side of Lanzarote.
The initial settlers in Lanzarote were people that travelled their island on foot, moving from north to south and from east to west with goods. From the south came fish. From the north, pulses and vegetables… Today these ancestral paths allow us to offer the best hiking routes in Lanzarote, over the course of a week full of contrasts.
Volcanic landscapes
The volcano erupted for six long years. Day by day Lorenzo Curbelo, the island’s parish priest, wrote down their despair. On the September 1st, 1730 the earth opened up, creating a scene of fire and lava. Nine villages disappeared under the slag. Lanzarote was depopulated. Its inhabitants emigrated.
Today the reality is different. The island has made the best of this past natural disaster. The spectacular volcanic landscapes have become a major tourist attraction. Walking and hiking in Lanzarote through its volcanoes and lava fields is an unrepeatable experience.
Walking Lanzarote Highlights
Our programme of 6 best walks in Lanzarote covers the most diverse landscapes. It also includes a trip to the neighbouring island of La Graciosa, only 30 minutes away by boat. The routes range from luscious palm groves, through volcanic scenery to trails along the coast, with beaches of crystal clear water and pristine white sand.
These are routes of a medium level of difficulty, suitable for people in normal physical condition who do sport from time to time.
Island nature
Lanzarote is an island of gentle relief. The Los Ajaches mountain range in the south and the Peñas del Chache in the north do not exceed 700 metres in altitude. The trade wind clouds cross the island from side to side without unloading heavy rains or humid weather. This is why the island’s nature is sparse, with scrub vegetation predominating. Only in the northern valleys do we find extensive palm groves that offer a different perspective of the island.
Cesar Manrique
The multifaceted Lanzarote artist Cesar Manrique has left his mark on his island. A forerunner of conservationist ideas, he promoted measures to prevent tourist overcrowding that are still enforced today. In addition, he devised unique architectural spaces perfectly integrated into the volcanic environment of Lanzarote. Today we can visit them through different centres such as the Cesar Manrique Foundation, the Jameos del Agua or the Mirador del Rio, among others.
Transfer to the hotel in Yaíza and virtual info-meeting to introduce the programme.

Day 2
Crossing the Ajaches - Femés ▸ Playa Quemada
The mountain range of Los Ajaches, in the south of Lanzarote, was the throne of the aborigines. Today, the village of Femés, with its farming and peasant tradition, sits at the top of the mountain range. Femés is a perfect vantage point with views to the south. The islands of Lobos and Fuerteventura are within its visual range, as well as the Papagayo Natural Park, in the south of Lanzarote. The route starts going around the Picos de La Aceituna (altitude 450 metres) and Pico Redondo (altitude 555 metres), towards the southeast of the island.
]
The views towards Fuerteventura and the small island of Lobos are splendid and little by little the path starts a continuous descent through the ravine, with impressive views over Playa de la Arena. And when you reach Playa Quemada, a humble fishing enclave in the south of Lanzarote, you can enjoy a swim in the sea before returning to Yaíza.

Day 3
Way to La Geria - Yaíza ▸ Bodegas La Geria
Leaving directly from the Hotel, the Camino Natural de Lanzarote heads towards Uga and winds gently uphill through the impressive volcanic landscapes of La Geria, where thousands of vines grow in vast fields of deep black volcanic ash, dotted with the cheerful greenery of fig trees and vines.
It is a wide and easy path that crosses the endless blanket of the so-called gerias (volcanic crescents that protect the vines from the permanent wind), which are characteristic of the place and give it its name.
When reaching the slopes of the Guardilama Mountain, the trail offers the possibility of a quick ascent to its summit, where a spectacular 360º panoramic view of the whole of Lanzarote opens up. And after the descent, the trail heads towards the final stretch until it reaches the Bodegas de La Geria, where you can taste their exquisite wines after the hike.

Day 4
By the Soo Volcanoes to Caleta de Famara
From the small village of Soo, a rural municipality in the northwest of Lanzarote, the path goes around the Pico Colorado (206m) until it reaches the path that climbs to its summit and from there you can enjoy a splendid panorama over the coast and cliffs of Famara with the Chinijo Archipelago as a backdrop.
The path then crosses the entire Natural Park, leaving behind the group of volcanoes formed by Montaña Juan del Hierro and Montaña Chica, until it reaches the north coast of Lanzarote.
Finally the road heads towards Caleta de Famara, a picturesque enclave next to the imposing Famara Beach where surfers abound in a light and relaxed atmosphere as well as a myriad of restaurant where you can have a bite or have a refreshment after the route.

Day 5
Famara cliff - Caleta de Famara ▸ Haría
Today is the day to change hotels. The driver who is in charge of moving your luggage to the north will drop you off in Caleta de Famara, from where you will start a route that climbs up the cliff and ends in Haría, right at the hotel DelMás, your next accommodation for the next three days.
The Risco de Famara is an imposing mass that rises up to 600 metres above the sea. As the zigzagging path ascends, the narrow beach at the foot of the cliff gradually diminishes in size.
At the summit of the Risco, we will have an impressive view over the small islands that make up the Chinijo Archipelago. Now the road enters the Valley of the Thousand Palm Trees until it reaches the Villa de Haría, the enclave chosen by Cesar Manrique to live his last years.

Day 6
Walking on La Graciosa ▸ Playa de La Cocina
The island of La Graciosa awaits us! Our driver will take us to the port of Orzola, where the catamaran "El Graciosero" will take you in just over 20 minutes to Caleta del Sebo, where we will dock in La Graciosa.
La Graciosa is an island where there is no vehicular traffic. The paths and tracks are only used by walkers and cyclists. Very occasionally you will come across a Land Rover belonging to the Environmental Service.
The path runs along the coastline, next to turquoise waters. The different beaches are inviting for swimming and follow one after the other until you reach Playa de La Cocina beach, next to the Montaña Amarilla (Yellow Mountain).
On the way back the silhouette of the cliffs of Famara accompanies you to Caleta del Sebo. In the late afternoon "El Graciosero" will take you back to Orzola to return to your hotel in Haría.

The path runs in a northerly direction along the edge of the cliffs, with a permanent panoramic view of the different islands that make up the Chinijo Archipelago. 1st night in Yaíza > Hotelito La Era (see in Hotels tab)
La Casona de Yaíza is a charming rural hotel located in the picturesque village of Yaíza, in the south of Lanzarote, near Timanfaya National Park and the Papagayo beaches. The building dates back to 1825, when it was built as a summer residence by a landowner, notable for its rustic and noble architecture typical of the period.
This former stately home has been expertly converted into a boutique hotel with an elaborate decorative style reminiscent of Renaissance manor houses. Among its facilities, the hotel offers a heated outdoor swimming pool, a jacuzzi and Wi-Fi connection, as well as a refined restaurant. Its strategic location makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the island, combining rural charm with modern comforts in a unique setting overlooking the Fenauso Valley.
HOTEL EMBLEMÁTICO DELMÁS
The Emblemático DelMás Hotel is a monumental, stately home built in the 18th century, located on a 10,000 m² estate in the centre of Haría. Surrounded by Canary Island palm trees and centuries-old Indian laurels, it is decorated in a contemporary, elegant style that makes it intimate and comfortable.
This environmentally sustainable hotel is ideal for rest and relaxation, with a piano lounge available and views of a century-old garden and the mountains. It has an outdoor swimming pool, free WiFi and free parking. Rooms have private bathrooms and flat-screen TVs. Perfect for couples seeking exclusivity and tranquillity in a privileged historic setting in the north of Lanzarote.
Additional overnights
It is also possible to book some additional days, before or after the hiking week, or an additional week to relax.
Difficulty
To successfully achieve the 6 walks it is necessary a good physical condition, steady walk and lack of vertigo. According to the year season, temperatures can be extreme (hot and/or cold). Therefore, it is necessary to have suitable warm clothes permanently, to be removed as layers if necessary. Some parts of this trail include passages with slippery loose stone. Although most of this trail is roomy enough, certain sections are quite aerial and require caution. Using hiking poles is highly recommended.
Trails
The Canary Islands has a well signposted network of trails. All sections where from our tours are perfectly marked. In addition to the detailed map of Lanzarote, you will get from us precise indications of each route and assistance from the hotline on your walks.
We recommend
Appropriate hiking clothing and sturdy footwear. During the tours, it is necessary to have food and drink enough, as well as sun protection, a cap, wind jacket and, in the winter months, warm clothing.
Luggage transfer
We move your luggage from one accommodation to next, so on your hikes you should only carry a backpack with the essentials of the day. For the whole trip, it is recommendable to use a single suitcase, not bigger than 20 kg.
You can book at any date!
