After a surprising 4WD transfer through a poor conditions track, we reach Casa del Monte, 1400 metres above the sea. From here, with helmets and torches, our walk introduce us in a magical environment full of lush vegetation along the old canal. The path crosses 13 narrow tunnels until arrive to the springs of Marcos and Cordero. But first you’ll need to cross the water tunnel, where no one escapes having a very refreshing shower. Once we leave the last spring behind, we begin a steep walk down through the Barranco del Agua ravine. The path goes in the thick laurel forests until the ends at Los Tilos.

Hiking tour to the springs of Marcos y Cordero
With 4×4 four-wheel drive vehicles, we drive up to 1,400 meters. Equipped with safety helmets and flashlights, we walk along the long, old canal, past exotic and endemic plants such as the magnificent blue-flowered viper’s buglosses, and through mystical cloud atmospheres that present themselves anew after each tunnel crossing.
The Springs tour
An adventurous walk along a path of old tunnels on the island of La Palma. With 4 × 4 vehicles, we went up a dirt road up to 1,400 meters. Equipped with protective helmets and torches, it runs along the long and ancient canal, passing exotic and endemic plants such as taginastes, with wonderful blue blooms, and through mystical cloudy environments that appear again after crossing each tunnel.
The tunnels
A good 100 years ago, Marcos y Cordero’s tunnels were painstakingly cut into the rocks to transport the precious water via a canal system to the terraces where bananas are still grown today. We walk through 13 tunnels to the waterfalls of Macos & Cordero. From time to time it drips down from the tunnel ceiling. and in the12th tunnel a small shower awaits us (take your rain jacket).
Los Tilos rainforest
After the last spring and a well-deserved sip of the fresh spring water, the path now goes steadily downhill and leads through the Canyon del Agua to the laurel forest of Los Tilos. Giant ferns line our path. Rays of light fall down to us through the biosphere reserve between the steep canyon walls. The scent of the laurel trees surrounds us and we breathe in deeply this clean moist warm air. Again and again we climb over stones, old tree trunks and huge boulders.
The Marcos y Cordero tour
Caution: the path goes along steep slopes. There is a danger of falling rocks and landslides. Each hiker assumes his own risk when undertaking this route.
The Track to Casa del Monte
The reason why this track is in such bad condition must be found in its ownership. The track is private and belongs to the entire Las Lomadas neighborhood. Its maintenance does not receive help from the institutions and during the summer many visitors use it, altering their situation.
