Teno Massif: Secrets
Route offered in collaboration with El Cardón NaturExperience
The Teno Massif is a Rural Park located on the north-western tip of Tenerife. Its splendid nature hides some of Tenerife’s best kept secrets. And our hiking route through the mountains of the massif down to Punta de Teno is one of them.
From the Plaza de Los Remedios in Buenavista del Norte we will travel to Teno Alto, a special enclave that treasures cultural features and ancestral customs. From there, our path continues downhill through beautiful ravines towards Punta de Teno, a marine environment next to the spectacular cliffs of Los Gigantes.
The old lighthouse of Punta de Teno, located on the protuberance formed by an old lava delta, has been a light and guide for ships and ships’ boats for more than a century. And the sheltered inlet invites you to take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters.
The public bus picks us up at 13:30 and brings us back to Buenavista del Norte in 20 minutes.
Buenavista del Norte
Buenavista del Norte is located on the northwest coast of Tenerife. Its agricultural and livestock farming traditions make it an ideal place to preserve ancient customs such as oxen breeding.
Teno Alto
A hamlet where a rich ethnographic legacy survives, with traditional houses with wide stone walls. It is well known for its cheese-making tradition and the artisan production of tiles in old ovens.
Macizo de Teno
Together with the Anaga Mountains in the north and the Adeje Massif in the south, the Teno Massif forms one of the three palaeoislands that gave rise to the island of Tenerife some 7 million years ago.
Faro de Punta de Teno
Built in 1897 with stone from La Gomera, it is one of the seven lighthouses that still survive on Tenerife today. Indispensable for marine traffic in the south of the island, it was placed on a promontory of lava, next to the cliff of Los Gigantes.
