Hiking in El Hierro
The island of El Hierro is one of the wonderful natural treasures our planet and a hiking paradise. Here you will find a varied range of vegetation & volcanic landscape combined with high mountains. All this has been declared an Atlantic Biosphere Reserve and it is an amazing destination for hiking in El Hierro. An Eden where we can walk through different climatic zones on a single route.
The coasts, the picturesque villages and the magnificent sunsets offer unique postcard motifs.
Lush forests of tree heath and gale trees, laurel forests, through which the cool trade winds pass with enough moisture to create a green oasis.
The starry sky over El Hierro, the vastness, the tranquillity and the scenic
contrasts are further characteristics of this small island in the Atlantic. The hospitality of the inhabitants gives us a feeling of security.
Old hiking in El Hierro trails lead us across the changing geography of El Hierro. Beautiful panoramas over the island await us on the edge of the gulf crater, certainly one of the highlights on our trip and a moment that will remain in our memories.
From the hotel, this circular route takes you up the trail PR EH 2.3 towards the Mirador de Jinama, through a lush forest of fayas and heather. The path converges with the GR131, a path that is also known as the "Camino de la Virgen" due to the four-year pilgrimage.
The ascent takes us to the Mirador de Fireba, located 1,350 meters above the sea and part of an old volcanic crater. From there the view is great, enjoying an immense perspective towards the neighboring islands of Tenerife and La Palma.
After the well-deserved rest due to the exhausting ascent, a constant descent continues through the PR EH 2 trail, crossing the Hoya de Carboneros on its way back to Valverde. It is a circular route along a very panoramic path that evokes the movement of the ancient locals when they moved their cattle in search of the best pastures on the island.

Day 3
Camino El Pinar - El Tacorón
A short 20-minute taxi ride will take you to El Pinar where you can leave your luggage at the next accommodation. And today your route will take you through the impressive volcanic landscape of the south. It is a route in permanent descent from the southern and sunny town of El Pinar, located 800 meters above the sea.
After the obligatory coffee at the bar in the square, Calle La Paz heads downhill, converging with Calle La Hoya. And walking through these streets you will penetrate the magnificent volcanic environment around El Pinar, starting a permanent downhill that ends at El Tacorón Beach.
Next to this small paradisiacal-looking beach is the Devil's Cave, which is well worth a visit. After a well-deserved swim, the taxi will take you back to El Pinar.

Day 4
Sabinosa - Virgin of Los Reyes Hermitage
Today the taxi will take you to the Hermitage of the Virgen de Los Reyes. An enclave in the west permanently whipped by a fierce wind. And the starting point of a peculiar pilgrimage that takes place every 4 years. The twisted junipers of impossible shapes make up a magical setting along which the trail runs towards the Mirador de Bascos.
Once we reach the Mirador de Bascos, a spectacular perspective opens up over El Golfo, from West to East, with the island of La Palma silhouetted on the horizon. And under our feet, the idyllic town of Sabinosa.
Now the path zigzags along the cliff towards the sea, until reaching Sabinosa, the end point of this route. The transfer to Frontera will be by bus (line 12, every 3 hours) or by taxi if your arrival time does not coincide.

This is a small family hotel located in the capital of the island, Valverde. It has a simple but comfortable appearance and is run by a friendly staff, who take great care of their guests, going out of their way to attend to their every need. Valverde, with a population of barely 5,000 inhabitants, is a quiet urban centre situated 600 metres above the sea on the eastern side of the island.
With only 17 well-appointed rooms, the Boomerang Hotel offers basic breakfast services in a cafeteria attached to the hotel.
All rooms have a private bathroom and television.
The setting is ideal for tackling the first route and enjoying a quiet urban atmosphere in the heart of El Hierro.
HOTEL GEKO
In the heart of El Golfo, on the north side of El Hierro, we find the quiet village of Los Llanillos, where the small Hotel Geko is located. It is a tiny but charming accommodation.
Its rooms, with wooden floors and ceilings in the purest traditional style, offer warmth and comfort in a family atmosphere. The proximity of the sea is omnipresent from every corner of the establishment.
The cave that was once a wine cellar has now been converted into a pleasant dining room for the hotel's guests. However, the usual setting for breakfast is the outdoor terrace.

Difficulty
To successfully achieve the 3 Walks it is necessary a good physical condition, steady walk and lack of vertigo. According to the year season, temperatures can be extreme (hot and/or cold). Therefore, it is necessary to have suitable warm clothes permanently, to be removed as layers if necessary. Some parts of this trail include passages with slippery loose stone. Although most of this trail is roomy enough, certain sections are quite aerial and require caution. Using hiking poles is highly recommended.

The Canary Islands has a well signposted network of trails. All sections where from our tours are perfectly marked. In addition to the detailed map of Tenerife, you will get from us precise indications of each route and assistance from the hotline on your walks.
We recommend
Appropriate hiking clothing and sturdy footwear. During the tours, it is necessary to have food and drink enough, as well as sun protection, a cap, wind jacket and, in the winter months, warm clothing.
Luggage transfer
We move your luggage from one accommodation to next, so on your hikes you should only carry a backpack with the essentials of the day. For the whole trip, it is recommendable to use a single suitcase, not bigger than 20 kg.
