The big sister of the Balearic Islands is a true paradise for hikers. Just a stone’s throw from the mainland, it is bathed in the splendid sunshine and light of the Mediterranean. It has two main mountain ranges, of which the Serra de Tramuntana in the northwest is the largest and most popular. The Serra de Tramuntana offers, in addition to fantastic views over the whole island, great routes through its high mountains. Lush forests of oak and evergreen pine trees populate a mountain range that is kept cool and tempered by the sea breeze.

Mallorca, pearl of the Mediterranean
Throughout history, Mallorca has been a place of great importance for different cultures. Its strategic location and wonderful climate all year round attracted the Carthaginians, Romans and Arabs. Each of them left their mark, which can be found today in the form of architecture and agricultural practices.
In modern times, Mallorca has been the favorite destination for northern Europeans looking for sun and sand. And although this style of holiday is still the majority on the island, Mallorca is being rediscovered as a true walker’s paradise.
New walking routes in Mallorca have been established, especially in the Sierra de Tramuntana. With well-preserved and well-signposted trails, hiking in Mallorca today is an interesting alternative to sun and beach holidays.

Mallorca, a natural paradise
Sierra de Tramuntana
The Serra de Tramuntana is a 90 km long mountain range in the north of the island of Mallorca. It is characterized by the diversity of its landscapes: forest areas made up of holm oak, pine, reed, and other species alternate with agricultural areas such as olive groves. It is also worth mentioning the large number of endemic species of flora and fauna.
Torrent de Pareis
This Natural Monument is made up of the torrents of Pareis, Gorg Blau and Lluc, located in the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountain range, which was declared a Natural Site by the Agreement of the Government Council of 16th March 2007. They constitute one of the most beautiful and abrupt landscapes on the island of Mallorca, forming a karstic canyon with walls up to 200 metres high.
Ses Fonts Ufanes
The Ufanes springs are the most unique hydrological phenomenon on the island of Mallorca. It is a spring with intermittent outcrops that spring up in a diffuse, very powerful and sudden manner, after the accumulation of sufficient rainfall in the Puig Tomir massif and its surroundings.

Other natural areas in Mallorca
S’Albufera
S’Albufera de Mallorca is the largest wetland area in the Balearic Islands. It is separated from the sea by a line of dunes. Although there were meadow formations about 18 million years ago, the current wetland area was formed less than 100,000 years ago, but over time its morphology has changed until it reached its current state.
S’Albufereta
In the S’Albufereta Nature Reserve we find a high amount of biodiversity that makes it of great natural interest. Its water comes from the sea, from the torrents in the area and from the outcrops in the area. Outside the Nature Reserve, a zone called Periphery of Protection has been established, which is necessary to guarantee its conservation.
Mondragó
The Mondragó Natural Park is made up of a mosaic of different environments that give it a great diversity of landscapes: the wild olive and pine forests, the dry farming fields, the coastal savines, the sweet pond of s’Amarador and the brackish water of ses Fonts de n’Alis, the coastline with rocky areas and sandy beaches. It also stands out for its high ethnological interest; the roter’s huts, the curucull huts, the dry walls, the dry docks, the defence towers, etc.
Península de Llevant
This Natural Park is made up of different Mediterranean habitats such as holm oak, wild olive and pine groves, cliffs, sandy beaches, and streams, which combine with the agricultural ecosystems created over time to form one of the richest and most diverse landscapes in Mallorca.
Cabrera
The National Park is made up of the Cabrera archipelago formed by the main island of Cabrera, Cabrera Gran, the island of Conills and fifteen small islets, plus the surrounding waters.
Es Trenc – Salobrar de Campos
This protected natural area is ecologically, naturally, and scenically rich. It is a beach-dune system where a significant number of habitats coexist, including important marine meadows of Posidonia Oceanica, strands of primary front dunes, stabilized dunes, an important wetland area (the Salobrar de Campos), coastal ponds, pine and juniper forests that fix the more consolidated dunes and, in the north and in the central part, fields of crops and livestock farms.
