The Teide Summit
Ascent to the Teide summit. The first ascent by cable car is to La Rambleta del Teide, from Las Cañadas. Then it’s a steep 45-minute walk to the summit: the Pitón del Teide, at 3,718 metres above sea level. From there you will enjoy the most spectacular view over the whole island Tenerife and several islands from Canary archipelago, in a breathtaking setting. Afterwards, the hike will be completed with a visit to the Pico Viejo viewpoint, with a total walking time of 3 hours.

Ascent to the Teide summit
Tour organised in collaboration with El Cardón NaturExperience
With the modern Teide cable car we ascend from Las Cañadas to La Rambleta, reaching 3,555 metres above sea level in just over 10 minutes. From this point, the walk begins to reach the top of the crater, also known as Pitón del Teide, the very top of Teide summit.
For 45 minutes the trail climbs steeply up the slopes of the crater in a constant zigzag until it reaches a height of 3,718 metres above sea level.
The crater, barely 80 metres in diameter, still emits sulphurous fumaroles more than 200 years after its last eruption. From the top of the crater, the views are breathtaking and you can see every corner of Tenerife. And also in the distance the clear outline of the neighbouring islands: La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro and Gran Canaria.
After enjoying a well-deserved rest and the spectacular viewpoint, the path takes us back to La Rambleta, with the permanent view of Pico Viejo in front of us. And again, by cable car, we descend towards Las Cañadas to end the activity.
Cañadas del Teide
It is a plain of sedimentary origin located 2,300 metres above the sea, inside one of the largest calderas in the world. Its cirque has a perimeter of 45 km and the whole area was declared a National Park in 1954.
Cable car to La Rambleta
The Teide cable car makes it easy to climb up to 3,555 metres from the area around Las Cañadas del Teide. The end point of this route is at La Rambleta. And from there, the “Telesforo Bravo” path allows access to the viewpoint over Pico Viejo to climb (with prior permission) to the very Pitón del Teide.
Pico Viejo
Located at a somewhat lower elevation (3,104 metres above sea level), Pico Viejo last erupted in 1798. Its main crater has a diameter of 800 metres. And the eruption generated a series of secondary craters, today known as “Narices del Teide”. The sunsets observed from the Pico Viejo viewpoint are of singular chromatic beauty.
Roques de García
Llano de Ucanca is an integral part of Las Cañadas del Teide and is home to spectacular monoliths known as Roques de García. Permanent erosion has left these monumental basaltic rocks exposed. A circular path takes just over an hour (3.6 km) to walk around them.
