Walk along the majestic Barranco de Masca canyon, from the hamlet of the same name to the sea. Undoubtedly one of the most emblematic hiking routes in Tenerife. The Barranco de Masca is located in the Teno Massif and forms a spectacular canyon carved out of the hard volcanic rock over more than 5 million years.

Undoubtedly the star activity in Tenerife is the descent of the Masca canyon. This is one of the most spectacular hiking routes that starts in the hamlet of the same name: Masca.

The walking route takes about 6,5 hours and the total distance is about 10 km (there and back). After a short walk through the hamlet, situated at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level, the path continues downwards towards the sea, ending in a paradisiacal cove, bordered by the impressive Los Gigantes cliffs.

At present it is not possible to embark from the beach to Puerto de Los Gigantes, so it will be necessary to take the same path back to the hamlet of Masca.

The hamlet of Masca

This is an idyllic enclave in the south of the island. Just a dozen houses perched on the edge of the abyss that form vertiginous ravines within the rural park of the Teno Massif.

Teno Massif

Located on the northwestern tip of the island, the Teno Massif is one of the three volcanic formations that gave rise to the original island of Tenerife. An extensive part of this massif has been declared a Rural Park, with a high degree of environmental protection.

Los Gigantes Cliffs

Rising vertically more than 400 metres above the sea, Los Gigantes are spectacular cliffs formed by basaltic rock, perhaps one of the most spectacular landscapes on the coast of Tenerife.

  • People with cardio-respiratory problems
  • Children under 12 years of age
  • Pregnant women.
Difficulty: strenuous    Duration: aprox. 6.5 h  (3 h descent & 3.5 h ascent).
Sturdy clothing and footwear, water (1.5 litres), picnic and hiking poles are required. You will also need to present your passport at the access point.

As it is difficult to park your car in the hamlet, we recommend you to access Masca using the public bus number 355 (TITSA). You can drive (and leave your car parked) to the following places:
  • Buenavista del Norte - bus departure at  9:35 am
  • Santiago del Teide - bus departure at   9:15 am
In case of closure of the canyon for reasons beyond our control (adverse weather or other reasons) an alternative hiking tour will be organised in the Teno Rural Park and the user will not be reimbursed for the cost of the hike.

IMPORTANT:  This purchase will be pending conformity for a maximum period of 72 hours. It is necessary to first issue the access permits managed by Camino de Masca. For this reason we reserve this space of time before being able to confirm the reservation.
In the event that it is not possible to confirm your booking, you will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
NOTE: We will only contact you if it is not possible to confirm your booking. But if everything is OK, you will not receive any message and we will see you on the day of the activity in the Plaza del Caserío de Masca.
Changes and cancellations: More than 48 hours in advance: The change or cancellation will be free of charge and 100% of the fee charged will be refunded. In case of change, the new date will be selected within a maximum of one year. Only a maximum of two changes will be accepted. *With 48 hours or less notice: Changes with less than 48 hours notice are not permitted, only cancellations. In case of cancellation, 50% of the fee charged will be refunded * No refunds will be made in case of no-shows at the time of booking without having previously requested a change or cancellation. Minimum registration: Prices from 5 people (adults). If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we will notify you at least one day in advance. In this case you can choose another date, another activity, ask us for a refund or do the activity assuming the minimum cost (150 €).
